local information
The town of St Just sits close to the coast in the centre of historic tin mining country, now designated a World Heritage Site.
Stunning local beaches include the beautiful Sennen Cove and Porthcurno, St Ives can be reached by car or open-topped bus along the glorious coastal road. A short walk downhill takes you through farmland to Cot Valley, or to Cape Cornwall, where small fishing boats still work out of Priest's Cove.
The coastal path is perfect for seeing wildlife and there are sightings of seals, dolphins and rare birds including the endangered Choughs, from here the South West Coastal Path stretches along some of the most beautiful cliffs in the country.
St Just is a vibrant community, with a rich history in mining and antiquities, and has many local events throughout the year. There is a good selection of galleries, shops, pubs and cafes and an abundance of walks along the coast as well as many other places of interest within easy reach.
It is a popular base for cycling, horse riding, climbing, and various water sports. For a small town, the facilities are good: butchers, bakers, greengrocer, hardware store, library, doctor's surgery, hairdressers, beauty salon, taxi, and local supermarket open 7 til 10, 7 days a week.
There is also a small airfield just up the road, offering scenic coastal flights, and trips to the beautiful Isles of Scilly.
