St Just and Pendeen area has World Heritage status because of it's historical importance to the mining industry, and the landscape is peppered with remains from it's mining history. All along the coast it is possible to see mine stacks, engine house remains, spoil heaps, smelting, stamping and wheel pit remains and more. The location was used extensively in the filming of the television series 'Poldark'.
Geevor mine at Pendeen was a working mine until as recently as 1990, and has a visitor centre www.geevor.com
Levant mine has a working beam engine, and Botallack is home to the dramatic Crown mines and labyrinthine arsenic works.
